I picked up some cool solar gear. Its a 4 panel ANKER system that puts out 14 amps. I have one small ANKER battery and I am extremely pleased with it. I picked up a 10,000 mAH and a 20,000 mAH battery. I’m going to add this to the gear I test out in Canada when we are off grid. The solar rig can only charge batteries via 5v input so it will only work with the 10,000mAH battery. My plan is to bring them both charges. The I will run down the smaller one first and start recharging it with the solar system. The larger battery is just going to be a bank to draw down till its dead. Both are surprisingly compact and light. The Anker solar set up can also charge devices directly. I put this to the test while I was at work today. I was able to charge my ipad about half way. It went from 24% to 71% over the course of the day with the solar panels hanging in my south facing window. Not too shabby. Combined with the ability to store power in the 10,000 mAH external battery I think this is a great back up system for basic power.
